Abstract

One of the main features of the current process of internationalization of higher education is the increased mobility of academics, especially students in time of completion of his undergraduate studies. Based on literature and documentary research method on the subject, the article proposes an analysis of the key features of the geographical attraction exerted by the U.S. territory in relation to the flows of the current process of internationalization of higher education. The research concludes that this polarization that the country performs in global flows of students and scholars both contributes to the scientific-technological development of the country, and for the annual spend of massive amounts of dollars in the U.S. economy. In addition to the resources generated to pay for educational services rendered, the "client-students" still need to consume housing, food, entertainment, transportation, materials research etc.

Manolita Correia Lima, ESPM

Doutora em Educação pela Universidade de São Paulo (2003). Mestre em Sociologia pela Université de Paris VII (Université Denis Diderot (1984). Graduada em Ciências Sociais pela Université de Paris III (Sorbonne-Nouvelle) (1984). Professora da Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing - ESPM e Pesquisadora do Núcleo de Estudos em Gestão Internacional - NEGI/ESPM. Pesquisa a temática Internacionalização da Educação Superior com foco nas experiências de internacionalização dos países com maior tradição em programas de cooperação voltados para a mobilidade de pessoas e a transnacionalização de cursos, programas e instituições.

Fábio Betioli Contel, ESPM

Possui graduação em Geografia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994), mestrado em Geografia (Geografia Humana) pela Universidade de São Paulo (2001) e doutorado em Geografia (Geografia Humana) pela Universidade de São Paulo (2006). Realizou parte do doutorado na Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Alemanha) em 2005, onde foi também professor/pesquisador visitante (Gastwissenschaftler) no ano de 2007. Atualmente é docente do Departamento de Geografia da FFLCH/USP. Tem experiência na área de Geografia, com ênfase em Geografia Humana, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: usos do território, geografia urbana, sistema bancário e financeiro brasileiros, internacionalização da educação superior
