Abstract

This article verifies the emergence of centers of excellence (COEs) and the transfer of knowledge from foreign subsidiaries of Pirelli and Peugeot Citroën in Brazil. Through structured interview with experts in the automotive industry, the results show that the formation of COEs is shaped by its need to adapt its products to local markets, as well as due to the autonomy gained by these subsidiaries and the importance and development of the automotive Brazilian market on a global scale. Besides these aspects, the COEs and the transfer of knowledge occur depending on the time the subsidiary is installed in the host country, as well as its relevance to the company´s business and relationship with the headquarter.
