Digital Preservation and AI Usage Policy
INTERNEXT is committed to long-term access to its content. We use the LOCKSS System to ensure this preservation, which creates a distributed archiving system among participating libraries. This mechanism allows the creation of permanent journal archives for preservation and restoration purposes.
INTERNEXT's Position on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
INTERNEXT establishes clear guidelines for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific publications, guiding authors and researchers on its ethical and responsible application.
According to these guidelines, authors must assume full responsibility for the content of their studies, including excerpts generated by AI tools. These tools do not fulfill authorship requirements, as they cannot take legal obligations, manage copyright, or deal with conflicts of interest.
Maintaining the integrity and credibility of published research is essential. Therefore, we recommend that all authors carefully read these guidelines to ensure compliance with INTERNEXT's ethical and publishing standards.
Examples of Permissions for the Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of AI can be considered valid for:
- Translation and Language Correction: Assistance in translating texts and grammatical, spelling, and stylistic correction, especially for authors who write in a language other than their native language.
- Transcription: Convert interviews or audio into text.
- Programming Assistance: Support in the correction and adjustment of programming codes.
- Research: Support in the search for relevant references and scientific information.
These applications are considered to support tools designed to increase productivity and ensure greater clarity in academic writing. However, their use must be declared transparently in the study.
Examples of Restrictions on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of AI is not permitted in the following cases:
- Authorship: AI tools should not be credited as authors in academic articles. All content generated by AI must be attributed to a responsible human author.
- Content Creation: AI is not permitted to generate parts of the study, such as theoretical discussion, methodological aspects, argument development, data analysis, or interpretation of results.
- Data Analysis: Data interpretation must be carried out by researchers and not by AI.
Security and Confidentiality in Peer Review
It is recommended that confidential data be avoided in AI tools, as some platforms may store and reuse this information. Maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of research data is essential. By following these guidelines, researchers can use AI tools responsibly, preserving the ethics and integrity of academic publications.
Declaration of Use of AI
When AI tools are used in research or the preparation of a study, the authors must explicitly declare their use. This information should be recorded in the methodology or article section.
Authors should detail:
- Which AI tools were used: Include the version and scope of the tool, as these factors can change quickly.
- How the tools were used: Specify the context of use, the commands used (prompts), and the date of application.
In addition, it is essential to recognize and declare possible limitations and biases of the tools used. If the information is extensive, it is recommended to include only the necessary information in the body of the text, with more details in an appendix.
